Sewing Needles

Sewing machine needles are standardized and are compatible across the range of brands, their sizes and, uses are different, so it should be bought after the proper research.

Most familiar needles are:-

Universal needles: They are used most commonly and, can be used for woven fabrics, synthetics, and some knit fabrics.

Ballpoint needles: These needles have a more rounded tip, which pushes the fabric fibers apart and, are ideal with rib knits, fleece, and double knit and, generally with knit fabrics. Polyester threads are best for use.

Stretch needles: They are used for highly elastic fabrics such as lycra, power net, silk jersey, spandex. Polyester or cotton wrap polyester threads should be used.

Sharp needles: It is used for working with several layers of cotton and, with densely woven fabrics such as silk or microfiber.

Quilting needles: It is also used for traditional hand quilting and, are shorter in length to attain quick and even stitching.

Jeans needles: As the name itself suggests, they are used for denim.

Leather needles: They are often known as chisel point needles as they are used for leather material.

Metafil needles: When it comes to metafil needles, they are ideal for sewing or embroidering on woven or knitted fabrics.

Embroidery needles: They have a wider eye and, so threads like rayon or cotton can be passed freely. So the chances of missing the stitches are less.

Topstitch needles: They have a very sharp point and, a wide eye, which is beneficial for every type of material.

Twin needles and triple needles: These are not compatible with every type of machine and, they are used for decorative stitches.

Wing needles: They will produce holes in the fabric to replicate drawn thread work. Fabrics made from natural fibers such as cotton should be used with these needles.
