Samantha Wore a Gold Waistband with Her Sari—and It’s Pure Fashion Gold
Samantha Ruth Prabhu made a striking case for contemporary elegance last evening in a Krésha Bajaj ivory sari. Styled by Prayag Menon, the actor embraced a silhouette rooted in tradition but elevated with modern styling elements. The sheer sari, adorned with scalloped borders, featured delicate thread embroidery and lace detailing inspired by mandala-like floral and geometric patterns. Cinched at the waist with a gold kamarbandh, the look balanced softness with structure.
The kamarbandh—once a staple of classical Indian dressing—has seen a stylish resurgence. Historically worn during weddings and dance performances, these ornate waistbands were often crafted in gold or silver, draped over saris or lehengas. Today, they’re inspiring designers and stylists alike. At Lakmé Fashion Week last month, contemporary interpretations of the kamarbandh emerged on the runway, from wooden corsets to statement belts paired with saris and layered silhouettes.
Samantha’s accessories were kept minimal yet impactful. She opted for statement earrings and a slim bracelet, allowing the intricate sari to take center stage. Her soft waves, parted to the side, and nude-toned makeup added a romantic touch to the overall look.
This marks her second appearance in a Krésha Bajaj creation in recent weeks. Previously, she wore a lavender sari with a sheer, beaded cape that added texture while maintaining a monochromatic palette. From pastel drapes by Eka to bold capes by Ekaya Banaras, Samantha’s sari collection reflects a deep love for reinvention, seamlessly blending heritage with modern-day glamour.
