6 Farmstays In India To Enjoy Nature At Its Best

By Aditi Rana

From Kerala’s lush plantations to Maharashtra’s scenic vineyards, these farmstays offer a totally unique vibe. Dig into farm-fresh food, learn to grow your own produce, and enjoy guided nature walks at some of the coolest farmstays in India.

Destiny The Farm Resort, Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu

Spread across 125 acres in the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, this organic farm is a total paradise. Hang out with horses (yes, you can ride them), cows, sheep, rabbits, geese, and even a couple of dogs and a cat. They grow everything from radishes and cabbage to basil, potatoes, strawberries, and plums, plus gorgeous carnations. The private kitchen garden supplies the freshest produce for the Wishbone Restaurant. Choose from 35 cosy rooms with warm wooden floors and country furniture, some even have fireplaces. Enjoy dairy and agri-tours, hike to a nearby Toda village, go fishing, camp on a hill, or dive into adventure sports. This place is an absolute vibe.

Spice Village, Thekkady, Kerala

Nestled on 12 acres, this resort is all about eco-chic vibes. The nature-cooled cottages rock thatched roofs made from locally sourced elephant grass, stone floors with coir mats, and upcycled wood furnishings. It’s a chemical-free zone buzzing with guinea fowl, squirrels, birds, and butterflies. They compost 250-400kg of food waste every three months to fertilize their veggie and herb gardens, and 75% of the resort is powered by solar energy harnessed on-site. They grow organic veggies and spices in-house, and the outdoor restaurant, 50 Mile Diet, sources all ingredients within a 50-mile radius to keep things eco-friendly. They’ve conserved 200 species of native plants. For adventures, hit up the nearby Periyar Tiger Reserve for jungle walks and river boat rides. Plus, enjoy a yoga centre, badminton court, and basketball court. This place is seriously sustainable and super chill.

Dudhsagar Plantation, Mollem, Goa

This 50-acre family-run plantation, led by a father-son duo, is all about embracing slow living. Ashok Malkarnekar’s mission is to give everyone a taste of pure rural life. The five rustic cottages channel the vibe of a traditional Goan village home, with spacious bedrooms, Mediterranean-inspired stone beds, a cool study table, and windows that welcome in bird calls and breezes. At Dudhsagar, it’s all about farm-to-fork dining, so you’ll be munching on what they grow. Think coconut bimbla curry, pineapple and jackfruit seed sabzis, served with rice and poie. Explore the plantation trails with your hosts and discover fruits, berries, and rare Olmi mushrooms among cinnamon, chikoo, and breadfruit trees. A quick jeep ride takes you to the Dudhsagar river for a refreshing dip, or trek to Tamdi Surla and Dudhsagar waterfall to catch a stunning sunset. Depending on the season, you can also join in for cashew picking and feni tasting. This place is pure chill vibes and nature bliss.

Fagunia Farmstay, Nainital, Uttarakhand

Fagunia is a three-bedroom homestay built to blend seamlessly with the natural slopes of a hill. Owners Anil and Aditi crafted the house across three levels to preserve the land’s natural beauty, with each room named after local birds. The Starling and Sparrow rooms on the lowest level feature two single beds each, while the Barbet Suite sprawls across the first and second levels, boasting a large living area and master bedroom on the first level, and an attic room with two floor mattresses above.
The menu is a tasty mix of North Indian and local Pahadi cuisines, all made with fresh ingredients from the couple’s farm—think turmeric, ginger, tomatoes, lettuce, basil, lemons, strawberries, figs, kafal (Himalayan bayberry), and hisalu (Himalayan raspberry). And for pizza lovers, there’s a Tuscan-style pizza oven where you can craft your own pies. Up for an adventure? Embark on a day-long trek down the valley to a river, passing through charming local homes and farms along the way. This place is all about epic views, good food, and cosy vibes.

Jor ki Dhani Godham, Sikar, Rajasthan

This 25-acre gem is one of India’s top farmstays, offering rustic, air-cooled huts made from mud bricks and cow dung, with walls lined with medicinal plants. With 14 cosy rooms to choose from, you’ll spend your days learning about farming, hanging out with farm animals, and savouring delicious food spiced up with their famous homemade masalas, which you can buy to take home. The menu includes rotis made from pearl millet, barley, and wheat, served with pulses, veggies, and jaggery.
Guests can harvest from garden patches brimming with rose bushes, papayas, and sweet limes, all thriving with the innovative drip irrigation system. The farm boasts 30 cows, 40 horses, and three dogs, and the owners can even teach you how to ride horses. You can also check out nearby lac bangle workshops and pottery kilns in the village, famous for being India’s largest producer of clay chillums. Other activities include trekking and exploring the ruins of Buddhist temples in neighbouring villages like Harsh Pahadi. This place is all about rustic charm, farm-fresh food, and authentic Rajasthani vibes.
